Who we see

We assess and manage a broad range of general surgical conditions, including:

• Hernia and abdominal wall conditions (including complex and recurrent hernias)
• Chronic abdominal wall and groin pain syndromes
• Proctology (haemorrhoids, anal fissure, fistulae)
• Gallbladder disease
• General surgical conditions appropriate for specialist care

Referral requirements

A valid referral is required for patients to be eligible for a Medicare rebate. Referrals may be addressed to a specific surgeon or to Northside General Surgeons.

• GP referrals are valid for 12 months
• Specialist referrals are valid for 3 months unless otherwise specified

Information to include

To assist with efficient triage and assessment, please include:

• Brief clinical history and relevant examination findings
• Relevant imaging reports (and images where available)
• Recent pathology results
• Current medication list (including anticoagulants)
• Relevant comorbidities and past surgical history

Urgent referrals

Urgent referrals should be clearly marked as such. For advice regarding urgent surgical assessment, please contact our rooms directly.

This practice does not provide emergency services. Patients requiring urgent or emergency care should be directed to the Emergency Department.

Communication with referrers

We aim to provide timely correspondence following consultation and after procedures, including operative findings and follow-up plans.
