Fees & Insurance
Clear information about consultation fees, rebates, and expected costs.
We aim to be transparent about fees and any expected out-of-pocket costs. Fees can vary depending on the complexity of your condition, the procedure required, and the hospital or facility where your treatment occurs.
Consultation fees
Consultation fees depend on the type of appointment (initial vs follow-up) and the clinical complexity. Medicare rebates may apply for eligible patients with a valid referral.
Please contact our rooms for current consultation fees and the expected Medicare rebate.
Medicare rebates & referrals
In most cases, you will need a referral from your GP or specialist to claim a Medicare rebate. Please bring your referral, Medicare card, and any relevant test results to your appointment.
Medicare rebates are determined by Medicare item numbers and eligibility requirements.
Private health insurance
If you have private health insurance, your policy may contribute to hospital costs and may cover some procedure-related expenses depending on your level of cover and waiting periods.
- Confirm your level of cover (Bronze/Silver/Gold) and any waiting periods
- Confirm whether your policy covers the relevant procedure category
- Ask your insurer about expected excess and/or co-payments
Your insurer can advise what your policy covers. Our team can help with item numbers where needed.
Out-of-pocket costs
Out-of-pocket costs may include one or more of the following:
- Surgeon’s fee (after Medicare and/or health fund benefits)
- Anaesthetist’s fee
- Hospital excess or co-payment (depending on your policy)
- Pathology or radiology fees (if applicable)
- Prostheses/implants or equipment fees (if applicable)
Where possible, we will provide an estimate of the surgeon’s fee prior to your procedure. Final costs can vary depending on operative findings and complexity.
Gap cover arrangements
Some private health funds offer “gap” arrangements (e.g., known gap/no gap) that may reduce out-of-pocket costs. Availability depends on the insurer and the specific procedure.
Please speak with our rooms and your insurer to confirm whether gap arrangements apply.
Self-funded patients (no private insurance)
If you do not have private health insurance, you may still be able to proceed as a self-funded patient. A written estimate may be available for surgeon fees, and the hospital can provide an estimate for facility fees.
Please contact our rooms to discuss self-funded options and obtain an estimate.
How to get an accurate estimate
To help us provide the most accurate fee estimate, please provide:
- Your private health fund name and level of cover (if applicable)
- Your Medicare number (if applicable)
- The hospital where you plan to have your procedure (if known)
- Any relevant imaging and test results
